With 25 years of experience developing technology standards and leading standards developing organizations, Mr. Wright is recognized worldwide for his experience, leadership and insight into using standards for a competitive advantage.

Mr. Wright has led the development of a number of technical standards in the IEEE, the IETF and the Printer Working Group.

In addition, Mr. Wright has served in a number of leadership roles in multiple standards bodies, including:

  • President of the IEEE Standards Association
  • Chairman of the INCITS Executive Board and US Head of Delegation to JTC 1;
  • Member of the Board of Directors of IEEE;
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IEEE-ISTO;
  • Member of the Board of Governors and Treasurer of the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA);

Mr. Wright is well known, especially in IEEE and INCITS, for his efficiency and effectiveness. Starting in 2005, Mr. Wright led the IEEE SASB Patent Committee in re-writing the IEEE SA Patent Policy. Taking over two years to develop, that policy became a model for many ANSI accredited standards developers allowing ex ante disclosure of licensing terms and rates.  Starting in 2013, Mr. Wright was a key contributor and editor for a revision to the IEEE Patent Policy that was one of the first to provide clarity to the meaning of "reasonable and non-discriminatory" licensing commitments.

In 2017-2018, Mr. Wright served the President of the IEEE Standards Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the IEEE.  He is currently the IEEE SA Vice President for Products and Services Innovation, the immediate Past President of the SA, and a member of the Board of Governors.
